Unit 78 : Research

File Extensions :   File extensions are what defines files from each other. It controls what programmes can open it and how it can be used. For example : a PNG file is an image file which can be open with programmes that allow you to view/edit images but it cannot be opened by document programmes such as word pad as it is the wrong format. For word pad you need a DOC file or any other type of text file and this could be opened in word pad, word, etc. Also there are different types of the same file. For example, an image can be saved as a PNG, JPEG and GIF. The difference between them is the quality of the image and it can affect how they are edited too. The link below has all the information on the different image file extensions. https://www.labnol.org/software/tutorials/jpeg-vs-png-image-quality-or-bandwidth/5385/ Compression : compression is the process of changing the format of a file which results in lower storage usage. For example, JPG takes up more stor

Faizaan Assignment 1

Assignment 1 Unit 77 - Game Defects Types - what you need In my Assignment, I am going to talk about game defects. I will talk about the types of defects, when they can occur and why. Firstly, defects are bugs that are in the game which could make them unplayable (game breaking) or they could just be hilarious errors that result in funny moments in the game and they are split into 4 operating regions. It is in these operating regions that these defects take place. The 4 operating regions are; Pre-game, Start game, in-game and post-game. The first operating region is the pre-game region. This region is everything to do with before the game is launched. This is things like installing, crashing on start-up and hardware requirement bugs. Firstly, when installing the game it could stop installing as it is not recognised by the software or there is a glitch in the storage. Also, the game could crash on start-up if it was not installed properly or the software cannot run th

Unit 78: Digital Graphics for Computer Games Assignment 1: Understand Theory & Application used within Computer Game Graphics In my assignment, I will be comparing a 3D game to a 2D game considering their art styles and why they were made the way they were. The games I will be comparing are; The Division and Super Mario Bros. First off, the division has a very photo-realistic art style as it is a representation of Manhattan, New  York, in an apocalyptic environment. This art style works extremely well for this game as it is supposed to make the player feel immersed in the world and engross them in what is going on around them and this executes it really well with its stunning visuals and accuracy of the map of the game to the real world. On the right is an image of an area of the game and you can see how realistic the lighting and weather effects are which really help immerse the player into the world. The scenes of the division were captured through photo

What is a Pixel and what is the difference between image res and picture res

Image
What is a Pixel A pixel is the unit of programmable colour on a computer screen. A pixel is made up of many tiny dots that are a blend colours, RGB. A pixels value changes depending on the amount of dots present. This also depends on the program that you use. If you use paint, there are less dots per pixel available which means the pixel will be less intense in colour. But if you use a program such as Photoshop there are more dots per pixel available which means more variety on colour depth/intensity. Above is a pixel and when you zoom in, you can see what makes up the black dot. Image resolution: Image resolution is the amount of pixels per inch. This means that as the resolution goes up, the more clear the image is but the image is smaller and vice versa. Picture resolution: Picture resolution is also the amount of pixels per inch but the difference is that it is a picture not an image. Picture resolution and image resolution are 2 different things. Art Styles

Image
Artistic Styles Photo-realism: Photo-realistic art is either hand drawn or digital art that looks real. Below is a bottle. But this is not actually a real bottle. This bottle is hand drawn so well that it looks real. This technique is used in some games, for example, games like ‘the division’ and ‘the last of us’. this type of art style helps immerse the player in the game as it all looks so real. Comparison video for the division: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTbIDHzRzno A scene from the division showing off the photo realism Cel shading: A scene from borderlands showing off the cel shading Cel shading is the opposite of photo-realism as it involves less shading but still remains detailed. This art style is tricky to pull off but looks really great in the right game. On the right is a game called borderlands. This game executes the style of cel shading really well as it has minimal shading but looks very detailed and it matches the game pl
