Unit 20: Computer Game Platforms and Technologies Assignment 1 - Understanding game platforms types in my assignment i will be talking about each generations hardware differences and why each console is listed into its own generation. Generation 1 the first generation contains the first ever publicly released consoles such as the Magnavox Odyssey. this generation of consoles was very simplistic as they were little games such as pong. also the Magnavox came with coloured filters for your TV which then gave the game colour as the TV would just be in black and white. this also allowed for the console to have different games to play as the console itself only displayed 2 dots, which were player controlled, and a vertical line. this shows how basic consoles started off and how far we've come from just 2 dots and a line. the controller for the game was a simple box with 2 dials and it was wired. one dial would control one dot and the other would control the other
Gaming Platforms There are 4 types of gaming platforms; PC, Mobile, Console and Arcade. Each platform has its benefits and its downsides. PC's allow for better quality gaming A PC platform is a platform that can be modified, you can exchange its graphics cards, processors, RAM, etc. this means that the PC, if it has the optimum hardware requirements, can run any game at high frame rates with high graphic options. Also, PC is an open platform unlike consoles and arcade. this allows for the consumer to download more than just games. there is a variety of applications user can install such as games, communication apps and video software. The drawbacks of a PC are that it is not portable. A PC tower is not portable as it too heavy and power is needed for it run. Also the amount of accessories that would be needed would be too much to carry as you would need a monitor, keyboard, mouse and maybe speakers/headphones. Also the cost a good PC build can be quite expensiv
James Assignment Unit 72 in this assignment i will be comparing the visual and game play styles of borderlands 2 to rocket league. Visual Styles borderlands is a first person shooter where you are a vault hunter who crashes at a place in Pandora where you must then save the people of Pandora and loot the vault. in your way are many enemies which must overcome by levelling up, unlocking abilities and getting better weapons to become the ultimate bad-ass. this game requires you to grind as you need to be certain levels to get through missions as enemies will have levels too high for you and also you need to grind for good weapons so you can take on the enemies. the visual style of borderlands 2 is cel shaded which supports the games look as it looks cartoon but goes for a real look. the world and terrain textures make the game look detailed but fun. on the right is a screenshot from the game and you can see how detailed the rocks look and the art style helps bring that out
